From High School to College

Here’s the third video I recorded to help my granddaughter in her transition from high school to college. High school was easy for me. College humbled me fast. I wanted to coach my granddaughter on the missteps that taught me asking for help isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom.

I told her to be bold, be resilient! Even though that jump from high school to college is a very big step, don’t allow it to overwhelm you. You can stay grounded by not putting additional pressure on yourself. Be bold, and do your best, but if you have a bad test, or don’t do as well as you anticipated on a quiz, or had trouble getting your research off the ground – remember, instances like these are just one component of many, many others that will also come. Don’t put much weight into each element or thing. Let yourself off the hook if everything is not always perfect. Life is full of imperfections. Each is a learning opportunity – not only for the studies in front of you – but to learn about yourself. In a little bit of time you can find the sweet spot – your comfort zone – as you navigate through (and enjoy) your initial year away at college.
